How does this scheme work?
The Bernese distance march differs from other marching events in the way the route is organised. While most marches follow a fixed route and the distance must be recorded in advance, our participants choose their own route based on the respective distance scheme and march as they please. In addition to the actual marching performance, orientation in the terrain represents a further challenge. The distance scheme and, of course, the distances between checkpoints change depending on the location. The checkpoints are always located in central, easy-to-find pensions, whose staff are happy to accommodate participants during breaks in the march.
